Note: It’s Just my point of view on this custom which has been followed for many decades in our country. In this article I just try to find answer to this question for my own curiosity.

During an interview taken by Shahbaz Ansar. One of them named Mohiba Urooj answered one of my questions 9:27–9:43 which I kept asking my mother and grandmother, “why women are not allowed in kitchens and other religious places during their Menstrual cycle especially in India”? They just gave me a very simple answer that this is how they are taught by their elders and it’s a sin to work in the kitchen and visit temples during the Menstrual cycle. I was never satisfied with their response. This custom has been practiced in our country for ages and I very well know that the ancestors of our ancient India were very practical humans. If they made this custom then there might be a strong and logical reason.
After giving a thought for a while I came up with my answer that I believe that this was made for the benefit of the women of our society. I think this does not link to suppressing women or killing their rights. If for a minute we analyze the activities of women of our ancient time mostly involved cooking food and other household activities. Another one was daily going to the temple to pray for well being of family and herself. So they were the true devotees toward their responsibilities. As we all know every woman is having a menstrual cycle every month. During which they suffer a lot of pain. During this extreme pain, they require proper rest and are taken care of. So I think our ancestors made a rule for women that they should not do any kitchen work and no need to go to the temple because during that time temples are very far from the houses. Instead of doing all the activities which they do daily they should rest and give time to their body to heal during that cycle. According to me this might be one of the reasons why they are not allowed in the kitchen during the Menstrual cycle.
